The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Crescent City Connection police officer on attempted murder charges after finding a woman suffering from gunshot wounds in a home on Clearview Parkway early Saturday.

The incident occurred just before 3 a.m. in the 4100 block of Clearview Parkway.

The sheriff’s office said it received a call from a woman who said that her mother had been shot by her stepfather, identified as 47-year-old David Kramer, who is a sergeant with the Louisiana Dept. of Public Safety.

A sheriff’s office spokesman said the call was made by the daughter of the victim, who was located on the bathroom floor and appeared to be suffering from multiple gunshots, police said.

The 53-year-old woman was taken to the hospital where she was treated for a gunshot wound to the face and arm. Her injuries appear to be non life-threatening.

The spokesman said investigators were able to determine that the victim and Kramer were involved in a verbal altercation around the time of the shooting.

Kramer has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation.

Louisiana State Police Superintendent Colonel Mike Edmonson said a criminal investigation by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff”s Office and an administrative investigation by Louisiana State Police and the Department of Public Safety will take place.
