(Daily Advertiser)- Judge Robert Summerhays was sworn in Friday as Louisiana’s new U.S. District judge in a special ceremony at the John M. Shaw United States Courthouse in Lafayette.
Summerhays, who will sit on the Western District bench in Lafayette, was administered the oath of office by his former boss, U.S. District Judge Gene Davis.
“He could not be better prepared for this job,” Davis said. “He was the best candidate and has a reputation for fairness and treats everyone with respect.”
Summerhays spent 10 years as a U.S. bankruptcy judge in Lafayette and comes well versed in the ways of the federal court system. He was nominated by President Donald Trump for a federal judgeship after a committee made up of Louisiana lawyers and other leaders submitted his name for consideration.
