LPSO, LCG being sued for alleged deplorable jail conditions

A lawsuit has been filed against Lafayette Parish Sheriff Mike Neustrom, City-Parish President Joey Durel, Lafayette Consolidated Government, among others for alleged deplorable conditions at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

The Law Offices of L. Clayton Burgess filed the lawsuit on behalf of their client on September 28, 2015. The jail’s Director of Corrections Rob Reardon, two sheriff’s deputies, two current inmates, and a civilian are also included in the lawsuit.


Burgess’ client claims that he was “falsely arrested and imprisoned after he called to report a burglary at his home.” The lawsuit also alleges that the complainant was attacked and stabbed by two prisoners while he was in jail. The prisoners were allegedly able to unlock their cell doors and enter the complainant’s cell multiple times.
