LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Lafayette Parish School System Superintendent Dr. Donald Aguillard had confirmed that schools will re-open on Monday, August 22nd and that all buses will run their routes where possible.
On Friday schools across the parish were opened with faculty and staff reporting in preparation for students to return.
According to Dr. Aguillard, approximately 110 out of over 4,200 employees have indicated absences for Monday and administrators have been able to find substitutes for 105 of them.
Temporary facilities for Kindergarten and 1st grade Westside Elementary students will be open on Monday at Scott Middle School, with 2nd to 5th grade students reporting to N.P. Moss Preparatory School.
N.P. Moss Preparatory and Westside Elementary held a parent orientation Friday morning to explain the changes to parents.
Dr. Aguillard says the parents were overwhelmingly positive after administrators outlined their plans.
The school has been informally named Westside Preparatory.
A second orientation for Kindergarten and 1st grade parents and their children is also at Scott Middle.
Parents of these students have named the temporary facilities at Scott Middle Westside Primary.
In order to give teachers more time for instruction before meeting with parents, parent/teacher conference days have been pushed back from their original date to September 27th, and October 25th.
