CROWLEY, La. (KLFY)—The LSU Ag Center says flooding caused more than $110 million worth of crop damage in South Louisiana.

This region is known for important crops like rice, soybeans, and sugar cane.

24 inches of rain over a two-day span lead to historic flooding across South Louisiana.

The bayou state has 30,000 farms on over 8 million acres of farmland with an economic impact of over $3 billion, and 60% of Louisiana’s Agricultural income is generated by crops.

The crops grown in Lousiana can be severely impacted by either a drought or in the most recent case of flooding… too much water.

The LSU Ag Center said the damage cost for the rice crop in Southwest Louisiana is more than $30 million. The Soybean industry took a big hit with about $44 million in damages, and the total agricultural loss for the state is more than $110 million.
