As St. Landry Parish resident Anthony Colligan walked into work one summer day in 2018, one of his tennis shoes broke apart.

According to the Louisiana Lottery, while the 58-year-old started to duct-tape it back together, he remarked “It’s funny that a millionaire would be walking into work with duct-taped shoes.”

His boss at the Baronne Veterinary Clinic in Sunset began to chuckle, but little did he know, Colligan had won $2 million during the Powerball drawing during the weekend of June 25,2018.

The winning ticket was purchased at 1 Stop in Grand Coteau, the lottery announced.

Colligan received $1,420,000 after state and federal tax withholdings and has now requested the assistance of HGTV’s David Bromstad to help him find the perfect home in Lafayette where he can party with his family and enjoy his fortunes.

Colligan will be featured in an episode airing this Friday, April 26 at 9pm/8c and then again Saturday April 27at 12am/11c on HGTV, titled, “Lucky in Lafayette.”

Real Estate agent Patti Duplechin Rood of Hunco Real Estate helped the lucky overnight millionaire find the perfect property in Lafayette.

“This was a bucket list item that literally fell into my lap,” Rood said.  “The crew was amazing and I had a blast. David was a trip and so friendly. They had crawfish, king cake, Mardi Gras Parades and Airboat tours. They loved the Lafayette food and people.”
