Lafayette Utilities System has a crew enroute to the Carolinas.  The team of 13 left today.

News Ten’s Renee Allen joins in the studio with the details.

LUS says the crew will stop tonight in Atlanta, and then early Friday head into North Carolina to a  zone just outside of where Hurricane Florence is expected to strike.

This is video of the team enroute.  LUS says the crew includes several bucket trucks with operators, a number of line teams, pickup trucks and a pole unit to help drill holes to install new power poles.

LUS says the local government in North Carolina is fully aware the team is on the way.

Once the crew gets the signal to move-in — they’ll go in — do the work — and stay until it’s done.

“We’ve been there and we understand the need for electricity.  Its an essential need for alot of people and its in our minds and our hearts to help and that’s what we are doing.”

When it comes to reimbursing LUS for the manpower, the interim director says the east coast will more than likely use  disaster relief money to settle debts incurred from the storm.
