Following a fatal hit and run crash this morning on LA 443, an extensive investigation has led to the arrest of 32 year-old Brandon Fowler of Amite, LA for his involvement in the crash.

The crash took the life of a bicyclist, 30 year old Anand Singh Asi of Hammond, La.

An initial on-scene investigation has determined that Asi was riding a Cannondale Quick CX Bicycle southbound on LA 443 on the right fog line.

While traveling southbound, Asi was struck in the rear by a white Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pick-up driven by Fowler.

Witnesses to the crash indicated that the truck fled the scene southbound on LA 443 toward US 190.

With the assistance of witnesses, media coverage, the Hammond Police Department, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation,

Troopers were able to locate the vehicle and identify Fowler as the driver at the time of the crash.

Shortly after 3:00 pm this afternoon, Fowler was taken into custody by Troopers on charges of Felony Hit and Run and Illegal Passing of a Bicycle. Additional charges will be referred to the Tangipahoa Parish District Attorney’s Office for consultation.

Asi was wearing an approved helmet and his bicycle was equipped with both front and rear lamps. Despite these safety precautions, he was severely injured in the crash and was pronounced deceased on-scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. As part of the on-going crash investigation, blood samples were obtained and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
