UPDATE: A man was shot dead Saturday morning after a gunman opened fire following a confrontation inside a vehicle in the 500 block of Macon Road, according to Lafayette Police Corporal Paul Mouton.
Mouton said two males were traveling together in the vehicle when the disturbance occurred. He said at some point the driver parked the vehicle, both men got out and two shots were fired.
An unidentified 37 year old male died at the scene. Police say the second male was shot once in the foot and was transported to a local hospital where he is being detained.
Police are currently interviewing two witnesses who saw the incident unfold.
ORIGINAL: Lafayette Police discovered a dead body on the corner of Macon Road at Eraste Landry Road just after 11 a.m.Saturday.
