LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Fifteenth Judicial District Attorney District Attorney Keith Stutes announced the conviction of Bryce Chapman on once count of vehicular homicide and three counts of vehicular injury.

On Mardi Gras Day, February 17, 2015, the defendant was driving while under the influence of alcohol and up to 100 miles per hour when he struck Carol Richard’s vehicle, according to the Lafayette Police Department.

The crash caused a fire and explosion killing Richard.

The vehicles then collided with a vehicle occupied by Karen, Christina and Cynthia Escavage.

All three were injured.

Chapman will be sentenced on November 3 before District Judge David Smith.

He faces up to 30 years hard labor.

The case was prosecuted by First Assistant District Attorney Daniel M. Landry III and was investigated by the Lafayette Police Department.

Chapman faces up to 30 years for Mardi Gras vehicular homicide
