GRAY, La. (KLFY)– A man was charged with aggravated rape after deputies say the man admitted to sexually assaulting his relative, a child under the age of five.

According to Sheriff Jerry Larpenter with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the Terrebonne General Hospital for a sexual assault involving a small child.

The child who is under the age of five was transferred to the Children’s Hospital in New Orleans where she was medically examined, according to a news release.

The Sheriff’s office tells News 10 that the investigation into the case continued where they learned that the suspect, Sidney John Bergeron, 25, was a relative of the victim.

The suspect was allegedly babysitting the small child when police say he physically sexually assaulted the child.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 15, 2016, deputies say they located the Bergeron, at his residence in Gray, Louisiana. Bergeron was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office where he was questioned by detectives.

Police tell KLFY that during the interview, Bergeron admitted to sexually assaulting the child.

According to a news release, Sidney John Bergeron, 25, of Gray Louisiana was arrested and charged with aggravated rape, he transported to the Terrebonne Parish Jail. His bond was not set.
