A man who was living in a storage unit in Crowley is facing felony criminal charges for allegedly starting a fire that destroyed two units.

According to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, 37-year-old Marcus Istre was arrested Thursday on simple arson charges.

In an interview with investigators in the days following the fire, Istre provided conflicting statements about his whereabouts the night of the fire and his access to the storage unit, according to LOSFM.

Through the course of collecting witness statements, investigators learned Istre had been living in the storage unit for the past month without utilities, according to LOSFM.

The business owner had recently filed an eviction notice on the unit, LOSFM said.

Istre was booked into the Acadia Parish jail and has a bond of $25,000.
