Women’s and Children’s Hospital:

Megan Beck hoped her first child would be born on December 22, the birthday of her late father who passed unexpectedly four years ago in a farming accident, Trevis Badueaux Marketing and Public Relations Manager for Women’s and Children’s Hospital explained.

Apparently, Salem Meer La Caze had different plans. The hospital confirms Salem entered the world at 2:58 a.m. on Tuesday, January 1 at Women’s & Children’s Hospital becoming Acadiana’s first baby of the new year. They say Salem weighed 5 pounds, 8 ounces and was 20 inches.

“He came when he wanted,” said Megan, 21, of Kaplan, who snuggled in her hospital bed with Salem hours after seeing his face for the first time. Her thumb softly stroked his tiny fingers as they wrapped tightly around her index finger.

“It was very exciting. I wasn’t supposed to have him until Jan. 2. I was scheduled to be induced tonight,” Beck said.

Target on Ambassador Caffery Parkway presented Megan and Salem with a gift basket brimming with toys, clothes, breastfeeding supplies and other items that will make the new family’s first few months together much easier.

“I want to thank them so much. They are helping out more than they realize. This is just awesome, the mom said.

Lafayette General Medical Center:

The baby born at Lafayette General Medical center arrived at 7:36 am to a Lafayette family. Kiera Ben says she gave birth to her buddle of joy at 7:36 a.m.

Mom and dad named their little one Lacey Lynn Porter. Not only is Jacey’s birthday a good sign, but her birth weight is just as lucky. “Seven pounds and seven ounces,” says Ben.

“I feel happy.” adds the mother.

Kiera says she knew ahead of time she was having a girl. She also knew New Year’s was her due date. “I thought I would go over my due date.  I wasn’t sure she would have come on New Year’s,”  Ben said.
