Mexican Navy calls off search for Lafayette native who went overboard a cruise ship

Late Friday night, Mexican authorities called off the search for 44-year old Lafayette native Juwanna brooks who went overboard a carnival cruise ship last Sunday night.

News 10 spoke to her mother Marilyn Winfrey  who said she was informed of this news earlier in the day.

In a News 10 exclusive interview earlier this week,  Winfrey said that the cruise was a Christmas present from her Juwanna’s husband Scott Brooks, and it was Juwanna’s first cruise.

Winfrey also said the two were married for 13 years.

When the ship returned to New Orleans on Thursday, passengers said the couple were arguing at dinner.

In fact, they said the argument escalated and security escorted the two out.

30 minutes later, Juwanna went overboard.
