The 64th annual Miss USA pageant is just around the corner. The contest is set for July 12th in Baton Rouge.

The contestants are already here, and getting a chance to experience Louisiana’s Cajun culture. On Friday, they made a stop in Henderson to learn how to two-step Cajun style.

Miss USA contestants traveled down the bayou, arriving in Henderson by boat.

Leah Blefko, Miss Arkansas, says “This is my first time in Louisiana and this was my first time on a swamp tour so it’s a new experience.”

Rebecca Dunn, Miss Missouri, says “This is the first time I’ve been in Louisiana. I know we had Miss Louisiana who was giving us the low down on what to expect and stuff but I love it here it’s so beautiful.”

Earlier this week the pageant beauties were in Iberia Parish for a photo shoot. The shoot was at bayou Carlin Cove in Delcambre aboard the shrimp boat Lil’ Man. The contestants participated in dockside activities and posed for photos as the port’s newest boat sailed down the bayou. Now, with only nine days before the Miss USA Pageant, the women say they’re just focusing on enjoying their time

Blefko says, “We’re all just having a good time together and we are going through this experience as contestants. You know with all the controversy going on there’s nothing we are worrying about as much as we are just enjoying our time here it’s just a once in a life time opportunity and we just want to make sure we enjoy every second of it.”

Last month Donald Trump, who co-owns the Miss USA organization, made controversial remarks about Mexican immigrants. Several organizations cut ties with the republican presidential candidate because of his comments. After, Univision and NBC dropped TV broadcasts of Miss USA and Miss Universe. The Reelz network will be the new TV home of both pageants.

Dunn says, “The miss universe organization has been around for a very long time and will be around for years to come as well. And Donald Trump is the owner of our organization but he doesn’t speak for all of us we are our own individuals and we have our own opinions again its brought us together and we are excited to be competing on the Reelz channel.”
