36-year-old Jerlyn R. Dumas of Morgan City has been charged with child desertion, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphenelia, after her child under 5 years of age, according to police, fell out of a two-story window at their home. 

The incident occured Monday on Terrebonne Street in Morgan City, police said.

A witness, according to police, told detectives that he witnessed the child fall and contacted authorities. 

The child was medically evaluated on scene and afterwards transported to a local hospital, then released, police said. 

During an investigation, police say, they learned that the child was home alone when the incident happened.

Dumas, according to police, had left the home with another of her children, a 1-year-old.

She was located a short while later and during questioning detectives say they located suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the residence.
