(KENTWOOD, LA.) KLFY A two vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a pick-up truck, Friday night, has taken the life of 42 year-old Robert M. Dykes of Franklinton, LA.

State Police say it happened around 6:30 p.m.  on LA 1055 near the intersection of LA 1054 in Kentwood.

An initial on-scene investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Dykes was riding his motorcycle eastbound on LA 1055 at a high rate of speed.   At the same time, police say 76-year-old Henry Butler Jr. of Kentwood was driving his pickup truck westbound and made a left turn into a private driveway.

As Butler turned, police say, he traveled directly into the path of Dykes’ motorcycle.

He was transported to a local hospital in critical conditions but later succumbed to his injuries.

Police say he was wearing an approved DOT helmet at the time of the crash.

Butler was properly restrained at the time of the crash and was not injured, police say. He submitted to a voluntary breath sample, which showed no trace amounts of alcohol.

An investigation remains ongoing.
