LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)— The 14^th annual National Family Violence Apprehension Operation took place.

“We’re taking all of the serious if any individuals are wanted we are looking to pick these people up on warrants and hold them accountable for their crimes.” – Lt. Babin

On Oct. 19 the Lafayette Parish Sheriff deputies made nearly 20 arrests as part of the nationwide roundup.

Deputies focused on people wanted on domestic violence charges.

Law enforcement agencies from across the nation participated in the roundup.

Lt. Babin said, deputies focused on fugitives wanted on domestic violence charges.

“We are targeting offenders who are wanted for domestic related violence. What we’re working today could be anything from non-support or spousal abuse.”

The roundup began around 4:30 a.m. and nearly 20 people were arrested, leaving residents like Sheila Gilmore thankful.

Gilmore said she is glad to see the sheriff’s office taking action against domestic violence and potentially saving someone’s life.

“Yes, I’m glad that that happened.” Said Gilmore, “It should have happened sooner because a lot of ladies have lost their lives behind domestic violence so it’s good.””

“I’m a survivor myself, in my past, I was stabbed in the back by my boyfriend.” – Gilmore

Babin said domestic violence should not be tolerated and the sheriff’s office is taking action.

Lt. Babin said the sheriff’s office is expecting to make a few more arrests.
