The city of Eunice is looking to make financial moves this upcoming fiscal year.
“We’re going to do a couple of roof repairs on some of the buildings that have been needing it,” said Mayor Scott Fontenot. “The central fire station is one, city hall and our new DMV building. Those are some of the buildings that need a new roof.”
He adds because a large portion of the budget will go toward these repairs, other areas will not receive the same funding they have in the past.
“We don’t have a bunch of money in our budget to where we can do everything we need to do in one year. Last year, we funded some recreational parks, this year we’re focusing more on existing buildings,” the mayor said.
However, Fontenot said the areas they do decide to spend their money on are of the utmost importance.
“We take an overall assessment of what needs to be fixed and what needs to be done– especially capital improvements– and we just try to address the ones that are at the top of the list,” he said.
The city also wants to use more money in the budget for roads, drainage improvements and to replace some of the city fleet vehicles.
The city council will vote on this new budget on June 11. If approved, it will go into effect July 1.
