NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY)-T he New Iberia Police Department has taken the lead in an investigation into a former priest accused of abusing a teenage girl.

The Diocese of Lafayette said today that a decision was made to forward all information on the case to law enforcement because it is unclear whether action had been taken at the time the allegations against Robie Robichaux were first reported to Diocese in 1994. 

Bishop Douglas Deshotel said the Diocese launched at investigation in September 2018 when he learned about the allegations. 

Robichaux was removed from office on Oct. 6 after the investigation was examined by the Diocesan Sexual Abuse Review Board.
