Police in New Iberia are hoping the public can help lead them to the man behind a violent purse snatching.

The crime took place Friday afternoon in the 900 block of Mississippi Street.

Authorities say the victim was in her vehicle when she was approached by a male who began to strike her and then took her purse from inside of the vehicle.

Deputies have been able to identify the suspect as 23 year old Lamont Rankin of New Iberia.  Deputies are asking if anyone has information on Rankin’s location to contact the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office at (337) 369-3711.
