UPDATE: The Iberia Parish Coroner’s office has identified the victim as 26-year-old Abigail LeBlanc, of New Iberia.

ORIGINAL: A man accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death has been arrested, according to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Deputies apprehended 31-year-old Tren Jude Mallet early Saturday morning without incident, LPSO spokesman Maj. Wendell Raborn said.

Raborn said around 9:30 a.m. deputies were responding to what was believed to be a medical emergency in the 1000 block of Weeks Island Road when they discovered the body of a 27-year-old white female who was the victim of a homicide. 

The body was located outside a trailer, Raborn said.  

She had been stabbed by her boyfriend during a domestic dispute, Raborn said.   

Mallet was still at the scene when deputies arrived and was arrested without incident, Raborn said.  

He was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on a charge of second degree murder. 

He is being held on a $400,000 bond.
