LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Lafayette’s new police chief is set to make the job official this morning.

Chief Toby Aguillard will be sworn in in a ceremony at the LCG Auditorium at 10:00 a.m.

At a press conference on Nov. 3, Lafayette’s Mayor-President Joel Robideaux announced the appointment of Chief Aguillard, a veteran law enforcement officer and former prosecutor with a combined 28 years in law enforcement and criminal justice experience.

Since 2007, Chief Aguillard has worked for the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO), where he has served as the director of the Internet Crimes Against Children Division for the last nine years.

Chief Aguillard worked in both the Cameron and East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Offices as well.

In addition to 18 years of law enforcement experience, Chief Aguillard has a decade of combined experience as an Assistant District Attorney in Cameron Parish and an Assistant Attorney General and Special Agent at the Louisiana Department of Justice.
