If you’re interested in living in downtown Lafayette , it may become a reality by the end of 2019.

Just a few months ago  it was announced that the Old Federal Courthouse in Downtown Lafayette would be turned into mixed used apartments.

There’s another complex popping up, in the same area.

It’s called the Vermilion Lofts.  They’ll be constructed in the former Leather Pouch location, in the 400 block of E Vermilion Street.

According to Developing Lafayette, it’ll be a new 21,800 square foot mixed use development, with 24 apartments on top, and 3600 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor.

A group of 7 or 8 partners have been designing the project for nearly a year according to The Advertiser.

Construction is expected to take 10 months and will begin soon.

This has CEO of Lafayette’s Downtown Development Authority Anita Begnaud, very excited…

Anita Beganud said, “I think it’s going to help us sky rocket as we think about new businesses opening, but also the businesses who are expanding in the downtown area, Waitr for instance.  We know that those employees want to live downtown too, so it’s huge news and I think it really shows that momentum is starting to build in Downtown Lafayette.”

Officials hope that by adding all these new apartment complexes to the area — it’ll encourage a more people to live, work and play in downtown.
