Upper Lafayette is expanding.

Construction is happening on the northeast corner of Louisiana Avenue and the I-10 intersection.

Lafayette Parish Councilman Kenneth Boudreaux says a Super 1 Foods store, a Cane’s, a walk-in healthcare clinic and other various retailers and restaurants are all being built.

Kenneth Boudreaux, Lafayette City-Parish Council Member for District 4, says, “We have the Brookshires development.. that’s Super 1 stores which will also have grocery and food there. We also have under contract, Cane’s. A walk-in clinic so healthcare still a tremendous need in that area. There’s gonna be other type retailers, food and restaurant types as well as clothes purses shoes anything that we could get there.”

Boudreaux says the area will be busy with construction for a while.

“The contract of the developer is actually doing the drainage infrastructure as we speak. The drainage has been put in. The utilities are being put in. Construction on the road is going to be in about the next 2 to 3 weeks. And that’s the infrastructure that is necessary that goes into place,” Boudreaux adds.

According to Boudreaux, this new development is vital to the area.

Boudreaux says, “It’s a positive impact across the board, like you say– economy, education, quality of life, in neighborhoods, property values, everything.. this is a game changer.”

Construction will be continuing over the next few years.
