LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – There’s a new sheriff in town.

You probably see law enforcement officers stopping traffic violators on a daily basis.

But watching the actual sheriff himself making a traffic stop is something you don’t’ see every day.

That is what happened this morning at a gas station on Evangeline Thruway in Lafayette.

Lafayette Parish Sheriff Mark Garber stopped a man who was speeding, switching in and out of lanes without signaling, and having a switched license plate.

The sheriff issued the man a citation for the switched license plate and was given a warning for the other violations.

When News 10 reached out the sheriff’s office for comment Chief Deputy Carlos Stout, the former police chief of Carencro and a former sheriff deputy, said Garber is, “the hardest working sheriff I’ve ever seen.”
