- A Boys and Girls Club counselor in Lafayette has been charged with felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behavior with a juvenile, police say. 21-year-old Jeckell Joseph Fuselier was arrested Tuesday at the Boys and Club on Marie Antoinette Street in Lafayette and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
- A man’s body was found Tuesday morning in the Vermilion river in Lafayette Parish. The body was found near the 400 block of Wilderness Trail – which is the same area where a man went missing last week.
- Funeral arrangements were announced for the Jeff Davis Parish couple murdered in their home. A mass will be held Friday, at 1 p.m. in St. John the Evangelist Catholic church in Lacassine.
- The Lafayette city-parish council held their first meeting since residents voted for a separate city and parish council, at the polls during the December runoffs. The current nine member city-parish council will remain in place through 2019.
- Americans could see a drop in prescription drug prices. Attorney General Jeff Landry has joined with 45 other Attorneys General in a bipartisan effort to lower prescription drug prices.
- Louisiana’s initial plan to require online sales taxes by January first will remain on hold through the new year.
- The Trump administration followed through on plans to ban bump stocks in the wake of the Las Vegas massacre. An administration panel also made recommendations to help prevent mass shootings in schools.
- The Senate passed a sweeping criminal justice sentencing reform bill Tuesday. The bill gives judges more leeway when sentencing drug offenders.
- Republicans and Democrats are still talking in an effort to avoid a possible Friday night partial shutdown of the federal government.
