Here are some of today’s headlines you should know before heading out the door:

  • A driver in Jeanerette was cited for failure for to stop for a train. The two vehicles collided on Highway 90. No injuries were reported.
  • St. Martinville police are searching for a suspect involved in a shooting that left a 17-year old male dead. The shooting happened on the 400 block of North Vivier St. If you have any information you are asked to call St. Martinville Police or St Martin Parish Crime Stoppers.
  • A series of campsite break-ins along the Atchafalya to Krotz Springs has the Sheriff of St. Landry Parish asking property owners to report if they have anything missing. Two people have been arrested. The Sheriff says more charges could be pending.
  • If you are looking to adopt a dog, beware of online puppy scams. Scammers request payment to ship the pet to your home and continue to increase the price, but the dog never arrives or existed.
  • The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is now consolidated. The new regional office is located in Lafayette. Staff from the New Iberia and Opelousas offices are now housed at the Lafayette location.
  • Local school superintendents are telling parents to brace for a drop in upcoming school letter grades due to a new, tougher rating system.
  • Louisiana’s Chief Gambling Regulator says three of the state’s 15 riverboat casinos have indicated interest in moving their properties onshore, under a law passed earlier this year. But first they must make improvements.
  • An Abbeville barber wants to help parents with back to school readiness by providing free hair cuts and school supplies from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. today. It’s taking place at the Kut Doctor Barber Shop on 1722 Society Street. 
  • Scattered rain is possible for Acadiana today. Skies will be partly cloudy with a high in the low 90’s along with a scattered rain chance, mainly during the afternoon and evening.
