  • As a potential split of Lafayette city and parish government looms, council members are addressing concerns. District 9 Rep. William Theriot says there hasn’t been enough time for public input. While District 4 Rep. Kenneth Boudreaux says a split will give city and parish government control of their own finances, encouraging growth.
  • The Carencro Police Department could be seeing a pay increase for its officer. The council is set to vote on the competitive pay increase to $40,000 next week.
  • A car wrap scam recently targeted one local resident. The scammer sent a fake check almost getting access to the victim’s bank account.
  • Bike riders came together to ride Mickey’s Loop as part of the 3rd Annual Mickey Shunick Memorial Bike Ride, to honor her memory and advocate for more bike safety.
  • The New Iberia is looking into the possibility of bringing fiber internet services into the city. The city recently interviewed 60 local businesses about their own Internet service. Mayor Freddie DeCourt is now asking for residents to fill out an online survey to help them better understand the residential side of Internet needs in the city.
  • St. Landry Parish Schools saw an increase in LEAP scores over the last year. Grand Prairie Elementary saw the biggest leap with 18 points.
  • Happening today, the Rayne Police Department will conduct an active shooter training session at Rayne High School. Officers say the training is designed to be as realistic as possible.

  • The recent violence across Acadiana has become an outcry to people in the Creole and Zydeco community. Musicians and advocates are holding a Stop the Violence Zydeco concert tonight. It begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Feed n’ Seed.
