Here are some of today’s headlines you should know before heading out the door:

  • For the first time in a decade, the city of New Iberia’s Police Department is back in action. Since 2008, the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office has handled duties in the city as a way to save money.
  • Lafayette Police arrested two men following a high-speed chase Sunday afternoon that ended along Kaliste Saloom Road. Both were suspects in a homicide case.
  • Caitlin Chase, the UL-Lafayette student that’s been missing since last week has been found safe. That’s according to her dad. He posted a video on Facebook saying the two were reunited in Los Angeles over the weekend.
  • The Lafayette Consolidated Government’s Environmental Quality Division meets with local builders and developers to address the impact flooding has on the city’s infrastructure. Water Management Workshops will be held throughout the year to build a plan on controlling the city’s water flow.

  • For an 11th year, Louisiana’s Corrections Department is asking people to donate professional clothing they no longer want to help people leaving prison have something to wear for job interviews.
  • A former Ragin Cajun is coming back to the Bayou State. On Sunday, NBA sources reported that Elfrid Payton will agree to a one-year deal with the New Orleans Pelicans.
  • It was also reported that Lebron James is leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to join the Los Angeles Lakers. James signed a 4-year $154 million contract with the Lakers, according to a news release.
  • A very warm and humid morning with temps in the 70s for most of Acadiana. Isolated rain is possible for the afternoon and evening as clouds increase throughout the day.  The heat index will be around 100-105°.
