Here are some of today’s headlines you should know before heading out the door.
- It’s the 4th of July and Americans are preparing to celebrate. President Trump will host a picnic on the south lawn of the White House for military families. Some of the nation’s biggest cities are planning fireworks shows.

- All bus services for the 4th of July will be suspended in Lafayette. This includes the night owl service and paratransit services. Regular routes will resume tomorrow.
- The Secret Service is urging travelers to be alert today…and throughout the holiday weekend. They say thieves are planting credit card skimmers at gas stations…to steal your account information.
- The Surrey Street Bridge officially re-opened Tuesday, as it was closed since October for emergency repairs. The rocker bearings needed to be replaced under the girder of the bridge. The project finished 30 days ahead of schedule and the estimated cost was 700,000 dollars.
- Opelousas is addressing drainage issues as part of the 2018 start program. Some water and sewer lines are over a century old.
- A high-speed chase in New Iberia involving a stolen vehicle has left two people injured and in the hospital. One person was arrested on multiple charges.
- A 34-year-old woman is fighting for her life this morning after a shooting in Lafayette Tuesday. Police say the shooting may have stemmed from a domestic dispute.
- A woman is recovering after collapsing in front of a New Orleans street car. Officials say she suffered full cardiac arrest and was taken from the scene by ambulance.
- Happy 4th of July! Scattered showers and storms will be possible again today. Skies will be mostly cloudy with a high in the 80s along with scattered rain.
