- The Trump administration is doubling down on its policy of separating families at the border. The issue has drawn outrage from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.
- On Monday, the third special session this year commenced. Governor John bel Edwards urged lawmakers to hit the reset button and pass $500 million in sales taxes to avoid steep cuts on July 1st.
- Local educators are in Baton Rouge fight to keep education at the forefront. A teacher from New Iberia says when money is taken away…programs are taken away, teaching jobs are in jeopardy and the student-teacher ratio goes up.
- A scam is targeting small businesses. Pointbreak Media is contacting them and falsely claiming to represent Google. They threaten businesses with removal from Google search results.
- Lafayette Parish has $9.5 million from a tax rededication that was on the ballot back in November to fund the top rated 27 coulee-cleaning drainage projects. They have been separated into 4 distinct types of work, with some expected to start today and in the coming months with bid approval.
- There are signs to look for before dangerous tree failures come down. Specialist Bob Thibodeaux says to look for dead leaves, fungus, and small soil space in regards to a dying tree.
- With kids out of school for the summer, they are likely to be spending more time with games and other high-tech distractions. One local counselor says the key to a healthy family relationship with technology is to set boundaries and communicated with one another.
- The Eat Lafayette campaign has highlighted Acadiana culinary for the past 14 years. Featuring over 100 restaurants, the event kicks off tonight at the Cajundome Convention Center at 5:30 pm.
- Scattered tropical showers and storms will be likely again today. Skies will be cloudy with a high in the 80s along with showers, storms, and gusty winds.
