Here are some of today’s headlines you should know before heading out the door:

  • An arrest has been made in the deadly shooting of De’lanzo Veal. Brandon Perkins was taken into custody after being questioned and is charged with 2nd degree murder.
  • Crowley Police have arrested 20-year old Byron Francis, Jr. in connection to a deadly road rage incident over the weekend. Francis is charged with 2nd degree homicide and a second suspect is being sought.
  • A 2-year old boy was hospitalized Sunday after he accidentally shot himself in Port Barre. Police have not yet decided if charges will be filed.
  • State lawmakers have agreed on a tax deal that will raise $463 million for the upcoming budget that starts in less than a week from now. Governor Edwards is expected to approve the deal.
  • The Beard Congregational Church in Erath, recently added to the National Register of Historic Places, will soon be restored as a museum. An upcoming gala hopes to raise funds to help bring this history back to life.
  • Baton Rouge Police are searcing for two suspects who reportedly fired at each other at the Cortana Mall Sunday. No injuries were reported in that shooting.
  • Governor John bel Edwards and Baton Rouge Mayor Sharon Weston Broome have declared this week as “Pilez Mosquito Week.” It’s an effort to control mosquitos in the state.
  • Officials with Toys R’ Us say hundreds of stores across the country – including here in Lafayette – will be closing by the end of the week.

  • A very warm and humid morning with temps in the 70’s for most of Acadiana. Skies will be partly cloudy with a high in the lower 90s along with a pop up storm during the afternoon. The heat index will be around 100-105°.
