Here are some of today’s headlines you should know before heading out the door:
- The Amber Alert for 9-month old Liam Allen is now canceled. Overnight he was kidnapped while sleeping in the back seat of his mom’s car in the Calvary Pentecostal parking lot. The suspect was found in New Orleans and charged with kidnapping and auto theft.
- One person is dead after a shooting broke out in the city of New Iberia overnight. Now deputies are searching for a person of interest.
- Opelousas Police are investigating an overnight shooting that sent a 14-year old to the hospital with a critical injury.
- Investigators say they’ve made a direct connection between a deadly shooting and arson case within 24 hours of each other. The State Fire Marshall’s Office is currently seeking 25-year old Daundric Johnson with an arrest warrant.
- Attorney General Jeff Landry’s Office released information about their Operation Broken Heart. It’s a joint effort between various Sheriff’s departments, State Police and Federal partners, that aims to arrest as many sex offenders as possible…and to provide community education, to prevent technology related child exploitation and abuse.
- It’s been nearly 14 years since New Iberia has had its own Police Department. Sunday the newly re-established department begins patrolling the city once again. The 65 member force has been in training for the past two weeks. Police Chief Todd D’albor says the department is ready to go.
- LCG has 20 channel clearing projects on its drainage maintenance list. The final one should be completed in September. Carencro a $3.3 million dollar project and Scott leases equipment to get work done there for residents.
- Abbeville City Council will officially have two new women serving together for the first time including the first African American woman. Terry Broussard and Roslyn White will be sworn in Friday at City Hall.
- President Trump is vetting possible candidates to replace Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy. Justice Kennedy will retire next month.
- A very warm and humid morning with temps in the 70s for most of Acadiana. Skies will be partly cloudy with a high in the lower 90s along with isolated storms during the afternoon. The heat index will be around 100-105°.
