Here are some of today’s headlines you should know before heading out the door:

  • A male suspect is wanted in New Iberia after a shooting left one man dead. Investigators say the victim seem to be running from the suspect when he was shot. The Iberia Parish Sheriffs Office is investigating a homicide. Come July 1st all crime in the city will be handled by the reestablished police department.
  • Victimized families of violence in New Iberia are now speaking out. FBI data shows a crime rate higher than 67% of the state’s cities and towns of all sizes. A stop the violence crusade is taking place tomorrow on Hopkins Street at 5:00 p.m.
  • UL-Lafayette Police say they are ending their investigation into missing student Caitlyn Chase after surveillance video shows her boarding a Greyhound bus on Monday. But Caitlyn’s father says he still hasn’t heard from her since the weekend, and he’s doing everything that he can to find her.
  • The Ville Platte budget for next year was passed yesterday. The budget is made up of over $17 million.
  • Part of Vermilion Parish has been approved as a qualified opportunity zone. This has the potential to revitalize downtown Abbeville, create new local jobs, and attract new private investment into Abbeville and Vermilion Parish.
  • A gunman opened fire at the offices of The Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis Thursday. Five people were killed, in what police are calling a targeted attack.
  • One of the most recognizable names in American retail, Toys R’ Us, is closing its doors for the last time today, marking the end to an era.
  • Tonight, the Lafayette Police will conduct an OWI checkpoint to target impaired drivers. It’s from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. somewhere within the city limits.
  • The Lafayette Police is also kicking of their Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign today. It will run all July 4th holiday until July 5th.
  • A very warm and humid morning with temps in the 70s for most of Acadiana. Skies will be partly cloudy with a high in the lower 90s along with a pop up storm during the afternoon. The heat index will be around 100-105°.
