Here are some of today’s headlines you should know before heading out the door:

  • Chef and Reality TV Star Anthony Bourdain is dead at the age of 61. CNN has confirmed he died of suicide.
  • Officials in St Mary Parish received a BOLO from the Jeanerette Police Department in reference to an altercation that had occurred in Jeanerette. Shots were fired during that altercation. That led authorities on a high speed chase all the way to LA 317 near Burns Point.
  • Yesterday in Scott, law enforcement responded to a call of shots fire which led to one suspect feeling inside a home. He was later taken into custody. Two possible suspects are still on the run. No one was injured in the shooting or investigation that followed.
  • The resignation of an Alderman in Grand Coteau has brought about questions of his pay even after missed meetings. An anonymous source says Brandon Miller missed 13 meetings dating back to last year and received a total of $3,900 while not being in attendance.
  • When Hurricane Harvey hit Texas last year, many people felt called to donate to storm recovery. The United Way of Acadiana is helping you make sure your donations are going where they should.
  • Louisiana has agreed to move people with serious mental illnesses out of state nursing homes and into community-based settings following an investigation from the federal government. 
  • A 25-year old Baton Rouge man has been indicted on a second-degree murder charge in the January beating death of a man on St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans. 
  • The Department of Wildlife and Fishieries is hosting their annual Free Fishing Weekend this Saturday and Sunday. During this time, anglers will not need a fishing license.
  • The Coushatta Tribe is holding their 23rd Annual Powwow this weekend. The event begins today and runs through Saturday at The Pavillion at Coushatta Casino Resort.
