Here are some of today’s headlines you should know before heading out the door:
- After hours of heated debate, the motion to denounce the controversial ‘Drag Queen Story Time’ event has failed, as 6 council members abstained from the vote and 3 were for the resolution.
- The Cajun Navy relief has returned back to Louisiana after helping roughly 450 people escape the impacts of Hurricane Florence in North Carolina. A second round of volunteers are heading back to help with relief efforts from the storm.
- President Trump will visit North Carolina today in the wake of Hurricane Florence. At least 37 people have died since it came ashore last week.
- Oil and Gas industry experts assembled in the Hub City. The Secretary fo the Interior announced $100,000 for Lafayette Parks and Rec. The Director of Parks says the money will help building a bridge for better trailing in Acadiana Park.
- The Town of Church Point is heading to court on October 15. Joey Comeaux, CEO and Founder of CoverSix Training Academy, a business designed to provide active shooter response training, is suing the town over lost revenue.
- Wednesday the Iberia Parish School Board will vote on approval to purchase a security assessment of all facilities in the parish. If approved, 400 employees will also be trained for crisis situations.
- The Lafayette Parish School System has launched the website lafayettecheckbook.com. The site will let the public see everything the school system has spent in their budget.
- Isolated rain is possible for Acadiana today as we stay extremely hot and humid. Skies will be partly cloudy with a high in the mid 90’s along with an isolated rain chance, mainly during the afternoon and evening. The heat index will be in the low 100’s for much of the afternoon.
