Here are some of today’s headlines you should know before heading out the door:

• Potential jurors being qualified in the malfeasance in office / perjury trial of Lafayette City Marshal Brian Pope could be eliminated just for cause. In this case if they know Brian Pope directly or indirectly. Jury selection continues Wednesday.
• A former Sergeant in the K-9 unit of the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office was sentenced  to 30 months in jail for violating the civil rights of a detainee. Back in 2012 David Prejean threw an inmate to the ground and demanded his dog bite the prisoner. Officials with the Sheriff’s Office say they conduct training all the time within the department to make sure things like this, never happen again.
• A Fort Polk soldier has been sentenced for manufacturing and using a chemical weapon in the Kisatchie National Forest. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
• Bill Cosby received a three to ten year prison sentence yesterday for drugging and sexually assaulting a woman at his home in 2004.
• The National Flood Insurance Program expires in two months and coastal lawmakers are fighting for funding to keep it going. Those applying for Restore Louisiana still have time. The deadline is extended to November 16th. 
• Lafayette’s first medical marijuana clinic is set to open on Monday, October 1st. The Total Health Clinic is currently accepting appointments.
• The Louisiana Immunization Initiative Program ‘Shots for Tots’ will return to Women’s and Children’s Kids Specialty Center on Saturday, October 6th. It will cost $10 per child.
