UPDATE: One person is confirmed dead after a shooting in New Iberia Saturday night.
On April 13, 2019, at approximately 7:30 p.m. the New Iberia Police Department responded to the 1300 block of St. Jude St. for a reported shooting, New Iberia Cpt. John Babin said.
Upon arrival, Officers found one victim with apparent gunshot wounds lying in the parking lot of a local grocery store. The victim who has been identified as 21-year-old Michael Hypolite, of New Iberia, died as a result of the injuries received in the shooting.
While officers where still on the scene of the incident they were able to located a suspect in the shooting and took him into custody, Babin said. He has been identified as 17-year-old Marlin D. Pernell, also of New Iberia. He has been charged with second degree murder and was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail. His bond has been set at $700,000.
This investigation is still ongoing with more arrest possible.
