ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KLFY)– An Opelousas man was arrested after he allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s house and stole her cell phone and a laptop.

According to officials with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, Benjamin Daigle was arrested after the owner of a residence told police that she awoke at 2:30 a.m. to find her ex-boyfriend standing next to her in her bedroom.

The victim who was six-months pregnant told police that her ex-boyfriend had no keys to the house. She stated that she told the man to leave several times, when he grabbed her set of keys and cell phone, according to a news release.

A spokesperson with the sheriff’s office tells KLFY that after the items were taken from the victim, the victim then attempted to retrieve back the items when Daigle grabbed her. According to a press release, the struggle resulted in a hole in the wall and bruises to the victim.

Daigle then allegedly exited the home and armed himself with a bat, unlocked the victim’s vehicle and stole a laptop.

The victim reported that every time she would go towards Daigle to stop him, he would raise the bat as if he was going to hit her. Daigle then allegedly threw the victim’s keys in some tall grass and left the home with the lap top and cell phone according to a news release.

Police tell News 10 that after some time, the victim was able to find her keys and drive to a local store to call 911.

Benjamin Caine Daigle was arrested and charged with Home invasion and aggravated burglary. His bond was set at $75,000.
