OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) – The mayor is expected to be on the clock 24/7 as a salary worker.

So many are wondering how he was able to clock overtime during the recent flood.

Some residents have posted pictures on social media of an Opelousas pay roll report, showing the mayor clocking overtime.

However, the report they posted is confidential information.

“REGGIE TATUM: “I’ve got employees that are really upset because their personal information was posted on Facebook being that their social security number, the last four digits and their names and all their stuff has been posted,” said Opelousas Mayor Reggie Tatum, “We already have talked to law enforcement and we plan to continue working with law enforcement to find out exactly what’s going on and how this information is getting out.”

As for the overtime, according to Mayor Tatum, due to the severity of the flooding, city employees, whether salary or not, were able to clock overtime during flood relief efforts.

“When you have an emergency or an incident, you try to keep good records and the amount of people that worked, the donations and everything and what you do is you compile that so at the end of the event, since the President declared it an emergency and also the Governor, then FEMA reimburses those dollar figures,” said Mayor Tatum, “And they basically told everyone, salary of not, to put down their overtime because it was 90% reimbursable by FEMA.”

Mayor Tatum ensures the public that nothing he or his employees did was unlawful.

“We are just trying to do the best we can. Nothing that was done was illegal,” said Mayor Tatum, “We’ve done everything that was instructed to us by FEMA, goseph and also the company that’s working with us to help compile the information.””

“Mayor Tatum will meet with FEMA on the 29th for the closing procedures.
