OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY)- The Opelousas Police Department is investigating a knife found on a school campus, and a student was Tazed during the process.

Opelousas Police Chief Martin McClendon confirmed that one student was detained for possessing the weapon at Opelousas Jr. High.

Staff alerted a resource officer shortly before 11 a.m. that a 14-year-old had a weapon on campus. When the resource officer approached the student, he refused, so the student was Tazed during the arrest, according to Opelousas Police.

The student was arrested and was eventually released to his mother. He faces four charges:

  • Illegal carrying of a weapon on school property.
  • Resisting an officer.
  • Battery on a police officer
  • Misrepresentation during booking.
