Another illegal firearm taken off the streets in Opelousas. On February 27, 2019 at approximately 12:00 P.M. while on Patrol, a patrol officer observed a 17 year old male walking in the area of Academy & Laurent Streets and noticed that the young man had what appeared to be a handgun in his pant pocket. Further investigation led to the officer seizing a 40 cal. Pistol from the 17 year old. Upon seizing the firearm the officer determined that the weapon had an obliterated serial number which in itself is illegal. The person was also located in what has been designated as a firearm free zone. The 17 year was subsequently booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail for the following:

            1. ILLEGAL CARRYING OF WEAPONS;

              2. POSSESSION OF/DEALING IN FIREARMS W/OBLITERATED NUMBER/MARK;

              3. FIREARM FREE ZONE; NOTICE; SIGNS; CRIME
