Opelousas Police Department has made a weapons arrest in the area known as the Oil Mill.

Police Chief Martin McLendon says officers arrested a juvenile who was concealing a 9mm handgun with an extended magazine.  He says the suspect was trying to hide it from officers in his waistband area.

Then a short time later, McLendon says officers then searched a nearby residence and located a wrapped shirt with a AK-47 assault style riffle that was fully loaded.

Investigators identified a male subject inside the residence as 19 year old
Davonte Mott.  Authorities say he confessed to possession of the firearm and that he had given the handgun to the juvenile that officers first came into contact with that was standing near the abandoned car.
