In St. Martin and Lafayette Parish, families are terrified after what police believe is an organized crime group scoping out then burglarizing homes in the area.
After a long day at work on Friday September 25th, Selena Hotard returned home, only to find her front door had been pried open.
“When they came the first time they took a lot of our valuables, stuff that we can’t replace.” says Selena Hotard.
Footage from her neighbor’s cameras caught the crime on video. The video shows three African American men in a black Nissan Maxima or Altima four-door Sedan. The men in the vehicle broke into both Hotard and her neighbor’s home even shoving paper towels down her dog’s throat to keep him from barking.
They are watching somewhere, we know they watched us.” says Hotard.
After the incident her family began trying to put their lives back together. They thought the nightmare was over until 6 am on Wednesday October 7th.
“It was dark, it was foggy. It was hard to see inside the car, but we do know it was the same black four door sedan,” says Hotard.
This time Hotard and her son were home when the men returned. Thankfully, her brother-in-law saw the men before they could enter the home.
After speaking with detectives a second time Hotard discovered her family wasn’t the only family to have their home burglarized, by who police believe may be the same group of men in the black sedan.
“They’re not scared, we’re the scared ones now,” says Hotard.
Hotard says she believes the men were primarily after cash and weapons.
