The Oxford, Miss., police department has apologized via Twitter for taking a shot at LSU’s hiring of Ed Orgeron as head football coach on Saturday.

Orgeron previously coached at Ole Miss, located in Oxford, where he struggled to a 10-25 record from 2005-07 before being fired.

A post on the Oxford Police Twitter account read “LOLSU #YAWYAWYAW” in reference to Orgeron’s Cajun brogue, which was difficult for Ole Miss fans to understand.

Orgeron was named LSU’s permanent head coach Saturday after going 5-2 in an interim role following the firing of Les Miles on Sept. 25.

We apologize to LSU Nation for our tweet earlier about Coach Orgeron. We wish him the best as Head Coach of LSU.
