Lafayette Parish School Board members Mary Morrison and Jeremy Hidalgo plan to attend the public meeting on Guidry Road.  The Tuesday meeting is about getting information on PARCC. Morrison says the test is not a pass or fail exam.  She explains it’s an assessment.  Morrison adds that as a parent she would allow her chid to take the exam “It’s an assessment to help you know exactly where your kids are what they know and don’t know,” says Morrison

Morrison supports the PARCC exam. She’s concerned that those who opt out will be putting the school district at a disadvantage. “From what I understand, if a person opts out, we’ll get a score of a zero and that could really count against us,” says Morrison

Board member Jeremy Hidalgo confirms what counts for him is the information.  He wants to be prepared to answer questions from parents in his district. “It’s not about where I stand on the issue at all.  In fact, I’m going to learn.  I’m more concerned about the consequences opting out may have on our district,” adds Hidalgo.

Recently the governor issued an order to allow parents to opt out without having a zero score impact the school, district or teachers.
