A Jeanerette man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle on Highway 31 south of Highway 86 in Iberia Parish.

The crash happened shortly after 11:00 pm Wednesday night.

State police say a preliminary investigation revealed a 2007 Ford Taurus northbound on LA 31 when she struck Arthur Frederick, 44, of Jeanerette.

Frederick was walking in the northbound lane near the center line and was wearing dark clothing with no reflective vest, according to Master Trooper Brooks David.

Frederick was pronounced dead on the scene.

Fontenette and her 70-year-old passenger were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and were not injured.

She voluntarily submitted to a chemical test and was found to not be impaired.

It is unknown if Frederick was impaired at the time of the crash, but standard toxicology samples were taken for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.

State Police would like to remind residents to take the proper precautions when walking along roadways, especially at night.
