UPDATE: Port Barre Police have issued an all-clear message after the local high school was swept Tuesday afternoon because of a phoned-in bomb threat. 

PORT BARRE, La. (KLFY)- The Port Barre Police Department is investigating a bomb threat found written on a bathroom wall.

On April 2, 2019, shortly before school let out, officers received a call from the high school in reference to a bomb threat message written on a school bathroom stall wall.

The threat came in the form of a handwritten message, which stated “I will blow the school up on April 4 at 11:30″, Port Barre Police Chief Deon Boudreux said. 

Several agencies are assisting the Port Barre Police Department to complete a “search and sweep” of the campus.

“Students, vehicles, book bags, lockers etc., may be subjected to being searched throughout the remainder of the week,” Boudreaux said. “Although this is more than likely a childish prank, we certainly cannot take things like this lightly. We are living in a chaotic time and we cannot let our guard down. We are going to conduct a full investigation to find out who wrote that bomb threat.” 

A hand writing analysis will also be conducted.

“We are asking any student that may have information in regards to the author of the message, to please notify someone in authority such as a school teacher or police,” the chief said.

Port Barre police, with the assistance of Opelousas Marshals Office, Opelousas Police Department, St. Landry Sheriff’s office, Fire District 2 and bomb detecting K-9s will be investigating the school this evening.

Police will be assigned to the school for the remainder of the week.
