Port Barre Officials have said an accident that occured Friday night is resulting in the water to be turned off Saturday January 19.  

Friday night a vehicle struck a fire hydrant and caused a break in the line.

At this time officials are not sure how long the water will be turned off. 

Port Barre Offcials released  this statement, “Water being shut off immediately due to someone hitting a fire hydrant on Hwy 190.  This shut off effects all customers on the Town of Port Barre’s water system, including those customers serviced by Waterworks District No. 3.  Our utility crew is on the scene and we do not know at this time how long the water will be off.  We will post additional news and alerts as they become available.  Once the water is restored to full pressure, all customers will be under a boil advisory as a precautionary measure until further notice.  We apologize for this inconvenience, and thank you for your patience.”
